15 Apple Products Discontinued This Fall

This fall has been a whirlwind for Apple, beginning with an eventful September that introduced numerous new products, followed by the mid-October launch of the iPad mini 7, and rounding out with an “exciting week of announcements” at the month’s end.

Alongside these fresh product releases, Apple has also phased out several older models, which are now unavailable in the Apple Store. Nevertheless, there are still some enticing deals to be found on last-gen products through third-party retailers.

#1 – iPad mini 6

The new iPad mini was introduced by Apple in October, featuring Apple Intelligence support, compatibility with the Apple Pencil Pro, and a solution to the jelly scrolling issue found in the iPad mini 6. Though the upgrade is minor, it was essential after a three-year wait.

There’s little compelling reason to seek out an older generation iPad mini, especially since it lacks Apple Intelligence. Currently, attractive deals are scarce for the previous model, with the iPad mini 7 available for $459.

#2 – FineWoven iPhone Cases

Apple’s FineWoven cases, which launched with the iPhone 15 last year as a so-called “eco-friendly” alternative to leather, drew mixed reviews. While intended as a premium fabric option, they unfortunately did not meet expectations due to their susceptibility to scratches, falling short of a premium experience.

In response, Apple chose not to offer FineWoven cases for the iPhone 16 models, although FineWoven MagSafe wallets and Apple Watch bands remain available. If you’re interested in a FineWoven case for your iPhone 15, many options can be found on Amazon, with cases for the iPhone 15 Plus priced around $29.

#3 – M3 MacBook Pro

Apple launched the new MacBook Pro model featuring the M4 chipset in late October, introducing the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chipsets, as well as an upgrade to Thunderbolt 5 on the premium versions, essential memory improvements, Center Stage support, and an option to have a nano-texture display.

Currently, there are some attractive deals on the M3 MacBook Pros, including a base model available at Best Buy for $1299. This is a great price for a 14-inch MacBook Pro, especially considering the quality of its display.

#4 – M2 Mac mini

The Mac mini also received its most significant redesign in October, now much smaller than its predecessor with a new frontal I/O layout and M4/M4 Pro chipsets. The revamped design includes a standard RAM bump, with the M4 offering 16GB and the M4 Pro providing 24GB by default. Additionally, it stands as Apple’s most potent desktop Mac yet.

There are currently no standout deals on the previous Mac mini version, and you should generally steer clear of purchasing it due to the scale of the redesign. The M4 Mac mini is currently available for $579 on Amazon.

#5 – M3 iMac

The iMac also underwent a refresh last month, upgrading from M3 to M4, adding additional Thunderbolt ports, and incorporating the same Center Stage functionality as the MacBook Pro. Plus, it now features 16GB of RAM by default—at the same starting price of $1299. It has also been released in a brand-new color palette.

There aren’t notable deals on the older M3 iMac at the moment, but you can save $100 on the current model after applying the on-page coupon, bringing the price down to $1199 on Amazon.

#6 and 7 – iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max

Continuing the trend established in 2018 with the iPhone XS, Apple has discontinued the previous generation of flagship iPhones, leading to the phase-out of the iPhone 15 Pro models upon the unveiling of the iPhone 16 Pro models. However, there’s a compelling case for acquiring a refurbished 15 Pro, as it remains one of the few iPhones supporting Apple Intelligence.

You can currently purchase a renewed premium 128GB iPhone 15 Pro for $725 or a renewed premium 256GB iPhone 15 Pro Max for $864. Amazon Renewed Premium devices also come with a one-year return policy, ensuring peace of mind should any issues arise.

#8 – iPhone 13

Unveiled in 2021, the iPhone 13 brought several enhancements including extended battery life, a new camera system, and a minimized notch. Initially starting at $799, it has seen significant price reductions over the years, falling to a low of $599 before its discontinuation.

While Amazon doesn’t sell new iPhones in the US, refurbished models are available, with prices starting as low as $372 for an unlocked iPhone 13 in excellent condition.

#9, 10, and 11 – Lightning Magic Accessories

As part of the recent Mac refresh this fall, Apple transitioned the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard to USB-C, phasing out all Lightning versions.

Although some deals on Lightning versions of these accessories exist, I would advise against purchasing them, as you’ll likely want to keep these accessories for a long time. Nevertheless, the Magic Trackpad with Lightning is currently available for about $20 off.

#12 – Apple Watch Series 9

Following the release of the sleeker Apple Watch Series 10, Apple discontinued the Apple Watch Series 9, likely due to pricing constraints between the SE and Series 10 models.

There are some deals to be had on the Apple Watch Series 9, but I would recommend against it since the Series 10 can be purchased for as low as $329.

#13, 14, and 15 – Remaining Lightning AirPods

The launch of AirPods 4 and USB-C AirPods Max heralded the end of all remaining Lightning port AirPods, including AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and AirPods Max (Lightning). Two variants of AirPods 4 were introduced at different prices—one with noise cancellation and one without.

Personally, I’d advise against purchasing AirPods 2 or AirPods 3, as AirPods 4 present a much more appealing option. The basic version is available for $119, while the noise-cancelling version is priced at $168. If you’re interested in noise cancellation, the USB-C AirPods Pro 2 are available for $189.

Additionally, there are clearance deals on AirPods Max (Lightning), available for as low as $399.

While the latest technology can be enticing, it’s worth considering deals on the recently discontinued products, in my opinion.
