Apple is in the process of beta testing macOS Sequoia 15.4, iOS 18.4, and other updates. The public rollout of these versions will arrive soon. Here are four notable new features coming to your Mac in macOS 15.4.
#1: Redesigned Apple Mail and Upgrades
The most significant enhancement in macOS 15.4 is certainly the comprehensive redesign of the Apple Mail app.
After launching its revamped Mail app on the iPhone with iOS 18.2 in December, Apple has finally expanded this update to the Mac and iPad with macOS 15.4 and iPadOS 18.4.
The new Mail interface organizes your inbox into categories such as Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions, with options to turn these off or switch to the consolidated All Mail view.
Additionally, emails from the same sender are now grouped in a new ‘Digest view’, enhancing the management of your inbox.
Sender contact images are now displayed prominently in message threads, making Mail feel much more akin to the Messages app.
#2: Verification Code Timer in Apple Passwords
A standout feature of Apple’s new Passwords app is its menu bar integration on the Mac, allowing for quick access to logins or verification codes.
In macOS 15.4, a useful upgrade is the introduction of a countdown timer for verification codes within the app.
This visual timer features a grey ring that gradually fills with green to indicate the remaining time before the current code expires and a new code is generated.
Although I would prefer the timer to also display directly in the menu bar, it is currently visible in the Passwords menu bar app when accessing a login with a verification code.
#3: Simplified Device Setup via Quick Start
Quick Start will be instantly recognizable to iPhone and iPad users, and its debut on the Mac is a highly anticipated feature.
When setting up a new device, Apple has long offered the ability to scan an animation from an iPhone or iPad to facilitate the transfer of various settings, including your Apple Account login, thereby simplifying the setup process.
In macOS 15.4, users will now also be able to utilize Quick Start on their Macs. It operates similarly to other devices, showing an animation on the screen that you can scan to transfer settings.
#4: Enhanced Languages for Apple Intelligence
With the introduction of iOS 18.4, Apple Intelligence is making its debut in the European Union; however, macOS has had access to it there for some time. The upcoming macOS 15.4 update will enhance the AI experience globally and in the EU through the inclusion of additional languages.
With macOS 15.4, Apple Intelligence will support the following new languages:
- French
- German
- Italian
- Portuguese (Brazil)
- Spanish
- Japanese
- Korean
- Chinese (simplified)
Users will also be able to engage with AI utilizing localized English in India and Singapore for the first time.
macOS 15.4 Features: Summary
Apple has numerous additional changes planned for the complementary updates of macOS 15.4, including iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4. Nonetheless, this update promises to be a solid enhancement for the Mac as we approach the much-anticipated macOS 16 reveal in June.
