This technology will allow smartwatch users to send text messages through Globalstar Inc.’s satellite network when they lack cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity.
While iPhone users have enjoyed this technology for a few years, enhanced by the critical iOS 18 update, the Apple Watch has not yet featured its own satellite capabilities. The Ultra 3 will allow users to leave their iPhone behind and fully engage with the outdoors.
5G Cellular Connectivity for the First Time
This third enhancement centers on connectivity. While earlier models of the Apple Watch Ultra have relied on 4G LTE, Apple aims to introduce 5G technology to the Ultra 3 this year.
This new feature is expected to utilize 5G Redcap, a more energy-efficient variant of 5G. Although Redcap won’t reach the same peak speeds as the iPhone’s 5G, it will ensure that your Apple Watch maintains its battery life.
