Welcome to 9to5Neural. AI evolves rapidly, and we’re here to help you stay informed. OpenAI has announced that GPT-4.5 will soon be available in ChatGPT within a few weeks. However, first, xAI is set to reveal Grok 3 later tonight, sparking excitement about what OpenAI may have in store…
Grok 3 Launch Event
Just after hinting at a potential purchase of OpenAI, Elon Musk proclaimed on Saturday that Grok 3’s debut is happening tonight with a live demonstration slated for 8 p.m. PT.
He has described Grok 3 as the “smartest AI on the planet,” but further information surrounding Grok 3 is still under wraps until the unveiling.
Here’s a quick timeline of xAI and Grok’s developments:
- xAI established in July 2023
- Grok-0 finalized in August 2023
- Grok-1 previewed in November 2023
- Grok-1.5 concluded in March 2024
- Grok-2 launched in August 2024
By 2025, xAI has transformed Grok from a feature in the X app to a fully-fledged standalone application and website.
One major curiosity I have regarding Grok is its potential integration into Tesla vehicles. While AI-supported self-driving is impressive, a Grok-enhanced voice assistant could greatly enhance user experience beyond basic voice controls.
Another point of interest is whether OpenAI will upstage xAI tonight with an engaging reveal for GPT-4.5.
Updates from OpenAI
Last week, OpenAI’s Sam Altman provided an update on the future of ChatGPT, indicating that GPT-4.5 is on the horizon, suggesting a release today is unlikely, followed by GPT-5 expected in the upcoming months.
GPT-5 is an ambitious initiative aimed at merging rapid large language models with slower, reasoning-focused models—eliminating the need to choose among multiple models for each query.
Meanwhile, Altman has casually hinted at the enhancements coming with GPT-4.5 on X:
When asked if he plans to “steal the show” this evening, Altman replied tactfully, “that wouldn’t be very nice…”
In the meantime, OpenAI has implemented some tangible updates in recent days:
- OpenAI “o1 and o3-mini now allow both file and image uploads in ChatGPT”
- OpenAI “increased o3-mini-high limits by 7x for Plus users to reach up to 50 per day”
- OpenAI has published a Model Spec update outlining desired AI behaviors
Additionally, there was this notably vague hype tweet:
This update is reportedly intended to enhance the writing abilities of GPT-4o, particularly when provided with examples, while reducing the generation of low-quality content.
Ultimately, recent updates in OpenAI models underline the significance of GPT-5 for ChatGPT. The increasing complexities related to which models excel in different areas are becoming unwieldy, and any chart that could present this would likely be outdated by the time it’s compiled.
Anthropic Remains Focused on Claude
Among the most captivating news recently is Anthropic’s announcement of an upcoming release for Claude 4. Similar to GPT-5, Claude 4 is anticipated to be a single chatbot capable of delivering quick responses like Claude 3.5, while also managing more resource-intensive reasoning tasks.
Claude 3 debuted last March, followed by Claude 3.5 in June, so the next major iteration is anticipated soon. Stay tuned for an official announcement.

In other AI developments, OpenAI’s board formally dismissed Elon Musk’s proposal to acquire the company for $97.4 billion; Mira Murati’s startup has recruited another co-founder from OpenAI; France’s Mistral has unveiled a model focused on Arabic language and culture; AI search platform Perplexity has introduced Deep Research (unrelated to OpenAI’s similarly named product); and Thompson Reuters triumphed in the first significant AI copyright case in the U.S. against the AI startup Ross Intelligence.
This brings us back to Grok 3, which is trained on “all court cases,” and we are likely to see its implications later tonight.
