The pandemic has shown us that the four walls of the office are not necessary to work. The increasing digitization is taking the workspace beyond the physical realm. Starting from educational institutions to IT and other work sectors are shifting base. This shift hints towards a deeper paradigm shift in several ways.
Facebook CEO Says There Is No Need To Return To Office
Facebook CEO is playing a major role in exemplifying this statement. Zuckerberg explained in a statement that several advances happening in Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AG) is likely to redefine the way we see work and workspaces. In an interview for The Independent, the Facebook CEO talks about the future of his company. He says, “we should be teleporting, not transporting ourselves”.
This statement corroborates with Zuckerberg’s actions time and again. In 2018, Forbes reported how the social media giant’s CEO pushed for a new VR app that would make way for a new kind of workspace. The limits of such work will not be restricted nor defined within the walls of office buildings. Neither will this kind of work depend on home offices. A tweet from the VP of Reality Labs at Facebook, Andrew Bosworth outlines this initiative. Several people are now raising the question: is this the future of work?
To add to this, Zuckerberg mentions that more that half of Facebook’s workforce will be operating remotely by the following decade. He explains that the process will be gradual and measured but he believes that it is a waste to lure employees to the employer’s location for work.
