Retired and current serving servicemen immediately took to social media to heavily criticize the sexist statements. Even the official US Army Twitter handle replied with a picture of a woman officer, captioning her as a proud soldier serving the nation.
Michael Grinston, a sergeant major in the Army, tweeted that women are the dominant force on any battlefield, future or present. He further called Tuck Carlson’s words divisive and a poor representation of the true opinion. Major General John B. Richardson said that the word soldier does not have any genders associated with it.
Lieutenant General Theodore Martins also joined the outrage by posting a picture of her daughter in a fighter plane cockpit, with the caption implying how enviable her position is. Retired General Barry R. McCaffrey gave an example of his own long-term career and stated how his experience has shown him the courage that women possess.
More than 75,000 replies to Tucker Carlson’s words were online by Thursday. The hashtags #BoycottFox, #FireTuckerCarlson, and #BoycottTucker were topping the trending ranking. There was almost no support for the conservative. Even voting organizations and authors took their stance at the outrageous comments of the TV show host.
