As if 2020 has not been worse enough, now, we won’t get any movie from the Marvel cinematic universe. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced everyone to reevaluate their business functioning. Similarly, Disney is trying to navigate the murky waters of this pandemic.

As announced by the company, Black Widow and several other movies from the marvel cinematic universe has been postponed to 2021 and beyond.

As per sources, Scarlet Johanson’s Black Widow will hit the theatres on 7th May 2021. As a result of this delay, other films like The Legend of the Ten Rings and Shang-Chi have been pushed to 9th July, 2021. Meanwhile, The Eternels will now be released on 5th November, 2021. Other movies like The King’s Man and the West Side Story have also been moved back due to this shuffle.

Sources say that Disney and Marvel decided to take this step as most of the threathresbun New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles are still shut or not functioning to their full capacity. They hope that by mid next year, things will be different.

Earlier in September, Lukewarm was released for the US market. The opening night saw a mere $20 million revenue for Tenet.

Fans Upset Over No Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie For 2020

Considering that Disney and Marcel spend a lot on creating an extraordinary Marvel cinematic universe, it’s natural that the executives at the company are worried about low earnings. To be fair, Marvel does not Access it’s movie’s success by the first few weeks box office earnings. However, due to the COVID-19 restrictions, no movie might do as well as they did before.

Additionally, while some Disney movies can rely majorly on online streaming, Marvel movies have a reputation for grand opening nights.

Artemis Fowl and Hamilton were made available on Disney Plus immediately after its release. Disney took another route for Mulan. Disney Plus subscribers could buy the movie for on the app, or they could simply wait till 4th December when the movie would be made free for all the subscribers. Mulan was meant for theatres. It’s clear that things are not going as planned for Disney.

Will Fans Be Comfortable With Venturing Out Into Theatres By 2021?

Even though Christine McCarthy, the chief financial officer of Disney, claimed that the production house is happy with its performance, many believe that Mulan did not do as well as expected.

She further added that the company wants to strictly focus on theatre releases for the upcoming Disney movies next year. Which explains the shuffle in the movies from the Marvel cinematic universe.

Since the Marvel target audience includes people from all age demographics, it’s expected that unless people feel comfortable venturing out into the theatres, Disney will hold on to their Marvel cinematic universe movies.
