A strictly non-profit organization has decided to push a little to ensure that the workers have been receiving their stimulus check payments. This would be especially helpful to those who have already been excluded from the federal stimulus efforts and have to look towards the workers’ benefits. The Non-profit in question is El Centro del Inmigrante which is based in Port Richmond. The organization came upon a novel idea which is basically a massive outreach effort regarding New York’s Excluded Workers Fund.
Non-Profit Working Towards Stimulus Check Relief
Michelle Molina, the Co-Executive Director of the non-profit has stated that at this point it is very important for the community to realize that most of the employers on Staten Island are looking out for them. As it stands, most workers will really find it difficult to access the multiple variants of stimulus check payments until they receive a letter of past employment- which, in turn, will help them pay off their month’s rent.
According to news reports, the Excluded Workers Fund is simply to provide relief to the workers of New York who have already gone through a major income loss due to the pandemic. It would also be helpful to those who were bereft of federal relief programs like the stimulus check- which would also include unemployment and pandemic benefits.
It has also been reported that most of the workers that the Non-profit is aiming to help are undocumented immigrants whose jobs have been impacted severely by the pandemic- think of domestic helpers, nail salon workers, and the like.
To access the facilities provided by this non-profit, applicants have to prove that they have lived in the state of New York before the 27th of May, 2020 and haven’t already received some form of stimulus check payment like government benefits or any other form of income relief.
