One of the biggest points of the American Rescue Plan Act has been the expansion of the CTC Stimulus check. The first payment under this has already been initiated on the 15th of July. The next set would be arriving on the 13th of August. Every additional payment made under this bill would be arriving every month for the rest of the year.
This expanded credit- which was passed under the American Rescue Plan- has been made available for the current year. But there have been major calls made to extend it for a few years- or even make it permanent. Several reports have called for it to be permanent.
The CTC Stimulus Check To Be Made Permanent?
The mayor of Cambridge, Sumbul Siddiqui, has stated that the CTC stimulus check should be made permanent. According to his report, several researchers have already estimated that the credit will definitely help in reducing poverty by half while reducing the impoverishment rate for Black children below half.
There is no denying that it would be a godsend for most families who are currently struggling on the fringes of poverty. He further stated that making it permanent would help citizens move out of subsidized housing. As the mayor of his county, it is definitely his priority to ensure that all his constituents will have access to opportunities.
Several politicians have already asked for the CTC stimulus check to be made permanent. There has been a group of officials from the Democrats, that include Senators Michael Bennet, Cory Booker, Sherrod Brown, and Representatives Suzan DelBene, Rosa DeLauro, and Ritchie Torres- who have already endorsed for the credit to be turned permanent.
While the Biden administration has not yet proposed such a turn of events, the administration has stated that the CTC stimulus check should definitely continue till 2025. But, it has not been made clear as to where this check will fit into the reconciliation infrastructure package.
