There are still many citizens in America who are yet to get their stimulus check payments worth $1,400 as they were eligible and did not receive it due to some issue. In the views of the Inspector General of the Treasury Department, still, thousands of eligible Americans did not receive the third stimulus check.
Thousands Of Citizens Did Not Receive Their Stimulus Check Payments
An announcement was made by the IRS on 30th March that they will not distribute any of the checks anymore. However, they will solve an issue of an eligible taxpayer who received an erroneous check or missed their stimulus check. In that case, they can ask for this extra money in the form of a Recovery Rebate Credit which will be calculated based on 2020 and 2021 tax returns.
Though the majority of the people have got their checks, an approximate number of 644,705 individuals still did not get as per the reports of the Treasury which sums up an amount of $1.6 billion. A family who recently had a newborn might have not received the payment for the dependent as the IRS relies on previous information. The department simply has information till the year 2020 depending on which it is sending the stimulus check.
Moreover, in some cases, individuals have started earning less after 2020, and hence, they became eligible for a check which might not be known by the IRS. A total number of 420,000 people have missed their third stimulus check and they have an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
Mostly the employees use the ITIN number instead of the Social Security Number. Furthermore, families with dependents can claim their payment under American Rescue Plan using their Social Security number. Lastly, approximately, 130,000 people did not get their stimulus checks because of an error in their unemployment payment.
