Taylor Swift made a special public appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival to present her short film “All Too Well” and discuss moving the 10-minute song to the big screen with filmmaker Mike Mills (“20th Century Women”).
The famously secretive pop artist also disclosed easter eggs in her short film, detailed her hopes to make a feature, and surprised fans with a surprise performance of “All Too Well” during a wide-ranging interview. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who were seated near the stage, were among the many in the audience who excitedly sang along, cheered, and snapped videos of Swift during the lengthy song.

Mills said that the 90-minute chat seemed like a concert due to the enthusiastic crowd’s continual applause long before Swift took out her red guitar. Since she was a youngster, Swift, 32, has been composing and singing her own music. She grew interested in getting behind the camera after spending so much time on the stages of music videos. Taylor Swift says that she went to great lengths to keep her “All Too Well: The Short Film” project a secret.
The musician created, directed, and filmed the short film in New York City last year, with actors Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink. It was shown last November, with little to no information revealed before the broadcast. During the Tribeca Film Festival showing of “All Too Well: The Short Film,” Tayor told viewers, “I am pretty secret agent-y about folks not figuring out more about what we are producing while we are making it.”
She went on to say, “So it was all codewords and putting stuff in codes that just a few people understood… I am a weirdo when it comes to anything like that.”
Taylor Swift has never officially stated that the song was written about her ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal. She also refused to fall for the hook when discussing the video with filmmaker Mike Mills, instead of focusing on the narrative of the short film.
