Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, which had loaned Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress to Kim Kardashian has claimed that she did not damage it. Monroe made the dress famous when she donned the gown and sang Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy in 1962, the year she passed away.
Ripley now claims that Kim Kardashian only wore the dress during the photo shoot on the Met Gala red carpet, and she then changed into a replica she had made for the rest of the event.
But their claim refuses to douse the controversy over the damage done to the iconic dress. Kim Kardashian famously said that she lost 16 pounds to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s dress. She said that the dress did not fit her when she first tried it.
Kim Kardashian said it took her three weeks to lose 16 pounds. She said it was a challenge and she was determined to succeed. Her act drew widespread derision with people commenting that she should not advertise the fact that she lost 16 pounds in 3 weeks just to fit into a dress.

Marilyn Monroe’s famous dress was borrowed from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, which piloted several exhibitions across America highlighting pop culture relics and various other memorabilia. Despite her much-publicized weight loss, the dress could not be zipped fully. To cover it, or to conceal the damage, as some claimed, she wore a fur stole covering her back while she was on the red carpet, the only instance she wore the dress.
The entrepreneur and reality star donned the dress only before she hit the Met Gala steps and took it off immediately after she was inside so that the dress was not damaged. She then changed into a replica of the dress once she was inside the Met Gala.
Ripley has denied the allegation on Twitter that Kim Kardashian damaged the seam and misplaced some of the jewels that adorn it. They have assured that they will answer all questions about the controversy in the spirit of transparency.
