According to a cross-complaint that CNN was able to receive, actor Alec Baldwin sued numerous people connected to the “Rust” movie on Friday.

The actor fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October when they were rehearsing a scene for the movie that was being shot close to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Alec Baldwin’s complaint is the first instance in which she has accused a defendant of misconduct in connection with the incident.

Baldwin filed the cross-complaint against the production’s armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, associate director David Halls, armorer assistant Seth Kenney, the prop weapon and ammunition supply store company Kenney possesses, and prop master Sarah Zachry. Baldwin is named as a defendant in a 2021 lawsuit by a “Rust” script supervisor.

More than anyone else on that scene, Baldwin has received an incorrect accusation of committing this catastrophe. Baldwin wishes to clear his name and hold the Cross-Defendants responsible for their misbehavior through these Cross-Claims, according to the cross-complaint. The cross-complaint states that Baldwin is requesting a jury trial, litigation-related costs, and other relief to be decided by the Los Angeles County Superior Court in addition to “compensatory, nominal, statutory, and punitive damages.”

Alec Baldwin blamed Gutierrez Reed and Halls, who gave him the gun, for the catastrophe on the movie set in an August 2022 interview with CNN. “It is his fault, no one else’s,” Gutierrez Reed’s attorney Jason Bowles told CNN on Friday. “He was the one who shot Halyna.”

When contacted for comment in August, Halls’ lawyer charged Alec Baldwin with shifting responsibility to third parties.

Attorneys for Kenney have in the past denied involvement in the shooting. Attorneys for Halls and Kenney responded to a request for comment from CNN on Friday. Zachary’s lawyer’s contact information is needed by CNN.
