9 million people have been informed by the IRS since last month that they still have time to claim hundreds in Stimulus Checks and Child Tax Credit payments. If you fall within this category, you have until November 17 to submit your claim because the tax authority has extended the deadline.

Reminder Letters Sent To Collect Stimulus Checks

To reach millions of Americans who have yet to claim benefits like Stimulus Checks, the increased Child Tax Credit, and the Earned Income Tax Credit, the IRS said it started sending the letters in mid-October.

To get the funds, those who qualify must submit a tax return by the close of business on Thursday, November 17th, according to the IRS. The IRS announced that the filing website would be open until Thursday at midnight E.T.

The IRS used tax returns to assess eligibility and where to send payments when distributing billions of dollars in stimulus grants to keep households financially afloat throughout the pandemic. Tax returns contain bank account details or home addresses for sending the check.

Because they failed to submit a 2021 tax return, roughly 9 million Americans have yet to claim their Stimulus Checks according to the IRS.

People who qualify may file a tax return even if they didn’t receive a letter, according to the IRS. The agency also stated that even if a taxpayer files their tax return beyond the standard April 2022 deadline, there is no penalty.

Information on how to submit a claim is included in the letters, according to the IRS.

The Department of Tax Analysis at the Treasury found 9 million individuals who are exempt from filing taxes because of their extremely low earnings, according to the IRS. For example, single taxpayers under 65 normally are exempt from filing a tax return if they earn less than $12,550 annually, whereas the threshold rises to $14,250 for single taxpayers over 65.
