Stimulus Check

To help combat the persistently high prices of goods and inflation, several states have previously issued Stimulus Checks, tax refunds, or stimulus grants to their populations. Only a few states have finished mailing out inflation relief checks, with New Jersey being the exception. If you live in a state and are eligible for aid but have not received it, you should contact your state’s revenue agency to find out what happened.

Each state’s Stimulus Check program is distinct, providing varying degrees of financial assistance, having varying requirements for qualifying income levels, and having varying due dates for payments.

Is Your State Sending A Stimulus Check

We’ve compiled a list of the stimulus check programs sponsored by each state, along with contact information for those who haven’t yet gotten their funds.

California

According to the California Franchise Tax Board, by the end of 2022, almost all Middle-Class Tax Refund (MCTR) Stimulus Checks were to have been made (FTB). After that day, on January 15th, 2023, the rest were to be handed out.

Colorado

Colorado citizens who met the following requirements were entitled to receive a $750 Stimulus Check for solo filers or $1,500 for joint filers if they submitted a state tax return for the 2021 income tax year and resided in Colorado for the whole year. At the latest, they would have been in the hands of those who were entitled by the month’s end of September (taxpayers who received an extension and filed by Oct. 17 were due to receive their refund by Jan. 31, 2023).

Delaware

Residents who filed a tax return in 2020 or 2021, or who were 18 or older as of December 31, 2021, received $300 payments for individuals and $600 for joint filers in May 2022.

Florida

For around 60,000 Florida foster and adoptive families, a one-time $450 stimulus check was offered in July as part of the wider “Hope Florida — A Pathway to Prosperity” project led by First Lady Casey DeSantis.

Georgia

In August 2022, residents who had a tax burden for the 2020 tax year and had filed state forms for both that year and the next year would have been mailed a check or had the monies deposited into their accounts, whichever was preferred. According to CNET, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp passed a measure in March 2022 that would result in rebate checks to taxpayers in the state of $250 (single filers), $375 (heads of households), or $500 (married joint filers) for those who have filed returns for both 2020 and 2021.

Hawaii

Residents of Hawaii may get either a $300 or $100 payment from the state according to Act 115, depending on their filing status and their federal adjusted gross income. Any citizen who submitted an income tax return for the year 2021 before the due date (Dec. 31, 2022) was eligible to receive one. In August of 2022, direct deposits were initiated, and by mid-October, tangible checks were being sent out. The one-time “constitutional refund” you’re due should arrive in your bank account within ten to twelve weeks after submitting your 2021 tax return.

Idaho

The state tax refund package, which Republican Governor Brad Little signed into law in February, gave each Idaho resident either $75 or 12% of their income tax return for 2020. Get in touch with the Idaho State Tax Commission if you haven’t received your bonus check by April 2022.

Illinois

On September 12, 2022, the Illinois government started paying out one-time refunds of personal income and property taxes as part of Governor J.B. Pritzker’s state Family Relief Plan. A family of four might get a maximum $300 Illinois Income Tax Rebate. Homeowners may get a reimbursement of up to $300 if they file an IL-1040 and use the property tax credit in 2021.

Indiana

Gov. Eric Holcomb has guaranteed a one-time reimbursement of $125 for single and $250 for joint filers for the 2020 tax year. While most people who were due to get these payments in the summer of 2022 were able to do so by direct deposit or a written check, others who were expecting a check in the mail were left waiting. New refunds of $200 for single taxpayers and $400 for married filers were approved by the Indiana legislature in August 2022. In certain cases, residents may get a check in the mail for a total of $325 for an individual or $650 for a married couple filing jointly.

Maine

There was a first wave of $850 relief checks sent out in June 2022, and all monies owed to qualifying Mainers (full-year residents who file a 2021 tax return by October 31, 2022) were to have been delivered by the end of that year. An $850 rebate was supposed to go to residents who register as single and make less than $100,000, or to those who file as heads of families and make less than $150,000 a year. A payment of $1,700 was owed to couples filing jointly with a combined income of $200,000.

Massachusetts

The planned rebate checks for residents of Massachusetts were to be worth between 13% and 16% of their income tax burden for the year 2021, however, this figure was not specified when the plan was initially introduced. The average refund amounted to around 14% of a person’s state income tax bill.

Minnesota

The Duluth Tribune reports that on October 5, 2022, rewards of $750 each were made to the almost 1.2 million employees who reported for work in person during the peak of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Conditional: New Jersey

The Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR) program, part of the state’s $50.6 billion budget, would pay property tax refunds to almost 2 million homeowners, with the amount being rebated based on the homeowners’ income. The Homestead Rebate was eliminated. This is the last outstanding state rebate. You have until February 28th, 2023 to submit your application. At this stage, we can only affirm that they will go out no later than May 2023,” a spokeswoman for the state treasury told Patch.

The State of New Mexico.

One installment of the automatic refund of $250 for single filers and $500 for joint filers and heads of households was given out in July to all qualified New Mexicans. In August, those who filed jointly or as heads of the household received $1,000, while those who filed separately received $500.

Big Apple

Homeowners in New York who met the program requirements for the 2022 School Tax Relief (STAR) program might earn a refund on their property taxes of up to $1,050. In August of 2022, a new $150 one-time property refund Stimulus Check became available. One needed to occupy the house as their principal home to be eligible for that provision.

Pennsylvania

As previously reported by GOBankingRates, the Pennsylvania one-time tax refund was available only to low-income homeowners who had signed up for the state’s Property Tax Rent/Rebate program. A homeowner had to be at least 65 years old, a widow or widower 50 years or older, or a person with a disability 18 years or older to qualify. Standard refunds topped out at $650, but additional rebates brought the total up to $975, as reported by CNET.

South Carolina

It’s already 2022, and South Carolinians who owed taxes in 2021 should have gotten their $800 income tax refund Stimulus Checks (they were sent in Nov. 2022). If you submitted your taxes by October 17th, 2022, you should have gotten your tax refund before the end of the year.

Virginia

You must have had a tax obligation for the tax year 2021 and have filed your taxes before November 1st, 2022 to get your $250 one-time Stimulus Check for single filers or $500 for joint filers by direct deposit or mailed paper check. You may visit the Virginia Tax website or contact 1-804-367-8031 to find out whether you qualify, how to collect your payment, or why you haven’t gotten it yet.
