An ex-town employee in Massachusetts has been blamed for operating a crypto mine operation out of a Middle High School in Cohasset. Nadeam Nahas faces charges of operating the crypto mine from the crawl space at the school from April to December 2021.

The former town employee of Cohasset stands accused of pilfering electricity from the school to run the crypto mine. He appeared at the District Court in Quincy on Friday. This was stated by the office of the District Attorney in Norfolk a day following the 39-year-old Nadeam Nahas missed his summons and a warrant was handed out against him.

Law enforcement authorities assert that Nadeam ran the crypto mine from the crawl space inside the school. He was accused of fraudulent electricity use that led to an additional cost of $17,500 and for vandalizing the school premises, according to police and court reports.

Nahas has been ordered to desist from going near schools and other public buildings. He goes back to court on Mary 17 for his pre-trial conference.

Police First Discovered The Crypto Mine In December 2021

Police first got news of the crypto mine set-up in December 2021. The facilities director of the town noticed ductwork, wires, and several computers that seemed unusual in the crawl space. This elevated space had the boiler room near it.

Nahas, a former assistant facilities director at the school, initially denied any knowledge of the whole arraignment. Nadeam’s senior, the facilities director, shut off the power supply to the arrangement as the heat was emanating from the crawl space where these pieces of equipment were kept.

Authorities at first found 6 computers inside the space with some of them inside coolers with heat outlets outside the space. Another 5 computers were discovered later further inside the crawl space. Nahas had earlier referred to crypto mining in his social media posts. He initially denied any knowledge of the incident but later backtracked. But he denied that he had a cryptocurrency wallet.
