Compass Mining, a Bitcoin Mining company, has stated that they found a few issues in the new ASIC design of the last couple of Antminer S19 mines which are usually used for mining cryptocurrencies. The issues, as noticed by the mining company, could result in the machines overheating- or in some other situations- completely malfunctioning. The mining operations of the firm also informed the miners in a post that they needed to be ready if the machines started breaking apart under extreme duress- especially the S19 90T and the S19 XP Antminers which were manufactured in 2022.

Compass Mining Has Warned That The Latest Mining Devices Could Have Problems

Although Compass Mining stated that these issues could have affected other versions of the Antminer as well, the imminent three issues located by the mining firm did stem from a scarcity of peripheral interface controllers on the units, along with an implementation of aluminum plating rather than the laminated material, and the scrambled components bunched up on one side of the board. According to the official statement from the company, Peripheral Interface Controller or PICs are used for controlling, as well as monitoring a whole host of devices and systems across the entire board.

Compass Mining also stated that by implementing aluminum on hashboard where it may appear to overheat and further disintegrate the system than those which were built on PCBs or Printed Circuit Boards- which is what the old S19s were created by. If the machines kept crashing, the company warned that it could lead to higher servicing needs. At the same time, the company also raised multiple concerns about the transition of the mining unit to aluminum which was a net negative.
