Two years after the trade ceased operations, the former CEO and founder of Thodex is eventually hauled to Turkey. The founder of the crypto trade Thodex finally returned home two years since the site stopped trading, continuing the narrative of the platform. According to reports, Turkey has received the extradition of Thodex’s former CEO and founder, Faruk Ozer from Albania.
When he arrived at the airport in Istanbul on 20th April, the local police apprehended him right away on suspicion of fraud and money laundering, according to the Turkish Anadolu Agency.
Thodex Owner Captured In Albania On Grounds Of Fraudulent Activities
The report states that the aircraft carrying Ozer departed from Tirana, the capital of Albania, early in the day and stopped at the airport of Istanbul, where the Police Department of the airport arrested him. The arrested founder will be transferred to the Police Department of Istanbul after undergoing expected medical examinations.
Ozer’s entry into Turkey occurs nearly two years to the day after the company unexpectedly stopped the exchange and withdrawals on April 22, 2021, amid rumors of a police invasion at its premises. Local media outlets conjectured that the expulsion was a component of Ozer’s suspected exit fraud after he reportedly ran from Turkey with cryptocurrencies valued at a minimum of $2B that had been stolen from his company itself.
After that, Interpol published a red alert for Faruk, who allegedly fled to Albania. The founder of Thodex, who had been on the run, was captured in Albania in 2022 August, about a year after Thodex failed. In addition, Turkish authorities apprehended 62 people in connection with the suspected Thodex exit scheme, including some of the CEO’s brothers who were at the time missing.
Ozer, who reportedly bragged about having dropped out of high school, is accused of running a criminal enterprise, aggravated fraudulent activity, and laundering assets.
