Apple’s M4 iMac is now available for pre-order ahead of its launch this Friday, complete with USB-C accessories. However, some consumers have noticed a shift in the purchasing process compared to earlier iMac models. With the M4 version, you can no longer select both the Magic Trackpad and the Magic Mouse. Here’s what you need to know.
Included iMac Accessories Limited to Either Magic Trackpad or Magic Mouse
The iMac traditionally includes two accessories with your purchase: a Magic Keyboard of your choice, along with either a Magic Trackpad or a Magic Mouse.
This setup makes sense, as not many users require both a mouse and a trackpad.
Previously, however, you had the option to add both accessories to your purchase if desired.
As noted by users on reddit, this option is no longer available with the M4 model.
Apple does offer each accessory for individual purchase, but notably, not in the color-matched options that come with the iMacs.
This means that if you’re seeking a matching trio of a color-coordinated Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad, you’re out of luck.
If you opt to buy a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad separately, you’ll be limited to standard black and white color choices, resulting in mismatched accessories.
It’s unclear why Apple implemented this change; it may be an attempt to streamline the iMac purchasing experience. However, this is a disappointing development for users who prefer to alternate between a trackpad and a mouse in their everyday tasks.
