OpenAI’s widely used AI chatbot, ChatGPT, is currently experiencing downtime, rendering the platform inaccessible for users globally on Friday evening. This disruption has also impacted its integration with Siri in the iOS 18.2 beta.

Impact of ChatGPT Outage on iOS 18.2 Users

OpenAI has commented that they have pinpointed the issue and are actively working on a solution. They assure users that they will restore ChatGPT’s functionality “as soon as possible,” but there is no timeline available for when the service will be operational again.

Currently, many users are encountering various error messages while attempting to access ChatGPT.

The iOS 18.2 beta introduces new Apple Intelligence features, including the anticipated Siri integration with ChatGPT. With this functionality, users can engage with the OpenAI chatbot directly through the Siri interface. However, due to the current outage, this capability is unavailable for several users with iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices running the latest beta.

Notably, iOS users will have the ability to interact with GPT via Siri without needing an OpenAI account. Apple also offers a subscription option for ChatGPT Plus, which can be linked to Siri through the iOS settings so that users can take advantage of premium features.
