Apple showcases a variety of applications through the App Store, which features its own editorial team dedicated to selecting the top apps and bringing them to the attention of users. Previously, there was limited clarity surrounding how these app selections were made, but this is now set to improve as developers gain the opportunity to request promotional spots on the App Store.
This new capability arises from the recently launched “Featuring Nominations” functionality in App Store Connect, the management system for apps available on Apple platforms. As explained by the company (via TechCrunch), developers can submit a nomination to alert the App Store team about a new app launch or an update.
All requests will be taken into account. Should a specific request be approved, Apple will inform the developer, and the app will receive promotion in the Today tab of the App Store. Furthermore, Apple states that developers can also propose the promotion of significant events within their games.
“Share your app or game’s upcoming content and upgrades for App Store featuring consideration with new Featuring Nominations in App Store Connect. Submit a nomination to inform our team about a new launch, in-app content, or enhanced features,” the company notes.
Earlier this week, Apple also refreshed App Store Connect for iOS, introducing a new user interface along with additional features such as a tool to create promotional assets for social media platforms like Instagram. This update follows a significant redesign of TestFlight that was rolled out last month.
App Store Connect for iOS is available at no cost on the App Store and requires an iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later.
