Every year, HomeKit accessories are high on my holiday wishlist. I enjoy transforming my home into a smarter environment, though it’s often tough to rationalize spending my own money on such gadgets.
Here are some of my favorite smart home picks for this holiday season, all of which seamlessly integrate with Apple’s HomeKit platform.
Lutron Caséta
The Lutron Caséta system stands unrivaled in smart lighting solutions. Its smart switches replace your traditional wall switches, allowing for control through smart systems while still enabling manual operation.
Home Key Smart Locks
One of my favorite features within HomeKit is Home Key, which allows you to lock and unlock your door with a simple tap on your iPhone or Apple Watch.
Smart locks supporting Home Key come at various price points. I personally recommend the Aqara Smart Lock U50, but there are plenty of options to choose from:
Smart Plugs
Smart plugs compatible with HomeKit make fantastic stocking stuffers, turning virtually any device into a smart accessory, like lamps, light strips, holiday trees, and more. I particularly enjoy the Merros Smart Plug Mini, which you can purchase in a set of four on Amazon.
Door and Window Sensors
Having recently relocated from the suburbs to the city, it’s crucial to ensure that my doors are securely latched and windows closed. Thankfully, a HomeKit solution is at hand to assist with that.
Smart Thermostat
Upgrading to a smart thermostat is one of the best ways to enhance your life quality. My top pick in this category is the Ecobee Smart Thermostat, which offers seamless integration with HomeKit and Siri alongside a stylish and easy installation. It’s truly the benchmark for smart thermostats.
Water Sensor
If you own a home, you know that water is your property’s biggest foe. By using a HomeKit-compatible water leak sensor, you can be promptly alerted to any leaks that may occur. I recommend placing several sensors around your home.
Eve Flare
The Eve Flare is one of my top HomeKit accessories for accent lighting. Its portable design and wireless charging feature allow for easy relocation throughout your home, positioning it wherever extra light is needed.
HomePod or Apple TV
If you’re setting up a HomeKit system from the beginning, you’ll need a central hub to manage your devices when you’re away. Both the Apple TV and HomePod can serve this function, but my tests show that the Apple TV is the most dependable choice.
In Conclusion
These are just a selection of my favorite HomeKit gadgets that would make excellent gifts this holiday season. There are many more available, and I’ll highlight a few of these below.
