Although the latest M4 MacBook Pros feature several thoughtful enhancements, their external appearance remains largely unchanged. The M4 MacBook Pro does, however, include an extra Thunderbolt port compared to the M3 model, a feature already present in the M3 Pro/M3 Max versions.
This trend continues inside the machines, as there are no significant alterations from the M3 variants.
Yesterday, iFixit released their teardown of the M4 Pro MacBook Pro on YouTube, noting that the “interior of the device appears very similar.”
When comparing it to the M3 Pro MacBook Pro, iFixit found a marginally larger heatsink designed to manage the increased power of the M4 Pro chip, along with some smaller integrated circuits relocated throughout the motherboard. Aside from these updates, the overall design remains consistent, featuring a dual-fan cooling system and unchanged battery capacity.
Earlier this year, with the release of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, Apple introduced a more straightforward approach to battery removal, allowing for easier swaps while minimizing the risk of battery punctures that could lead to fires.
Unfortunately, the new M4 MacBook Pros do not implement any similar advancements for battery replacements. We can only hope for improvements in this area when the redesign of the MacBook Pro is scheduled for 2026.
