15 Apple Products Discontinued This Fall

This fall has been quite eventful for Apple, featuring a bustling September event, the introduction of the iPad mini 7 in mid-October, and a thrilling series of announcements at the month’s end.

Among all the new product rollouts, several older items have been phased out, meaning they can no longer be found in the Apple Store. Fortunately, there are still some excellent deals available for last-generation products from third-party retailers.

#1 – iPad mini 6

In October, Apple launched a new iPad mini model that includes support for Apple Intelligence and compatibility with the Apple Pencil Pro, along with a resolution for the jelly scrolling issue seen in the iPad mini 6. Although the upgrade is modest, it was greatly anticipated after three years of waiting.

If you’re not particularly concerned about Apple Intelligence, you can still find the last-generation iPad mini model available for $349, featuring 64GB of storage.

#2 – FineWoven iPhone cases

With the iPhone 15 launch, Apple introduced the much-debated FineWoven cases as a so-called “eco-friendly” alternative to leather. Although intended to provide a premium feel, they fell short as the cases scratched easily, failing to deliver on the premium claim.

Acknowledging the issues, Apple chose not to offer FineWoven iPhone cases for the iPhone 16 series but did retain the FineWoven MagSafe wallets and Apple Watch bands. If you’re looking for a FineWoven case for your iPhone 15, various deals can be found on Amazon, including one priced at just $21 for the iPhone 15 Pro.

#3 – M3 MacBook Pro

Last month, Apple introduced the new MacBook Pro powered by M4, featuring M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chipsets, alongside enhanced Thunderbolt 5 support on the high-end models, significant RAM updates, Center Stage capability, and an option for a nano-texture display configuration.

Numerous enticing deals are available for the M3 MacBook Pros, including a base model sale at Best Buy for $1199 – a fantastic price for a 14-inch MacBook Pro, especially considering its display quality.

#4 – M2 Mac mini

This month, Apple revealed its most significant redesign of the Mac mini, making it noticeably smaller than its predecessor, with frontal I/O and featuring M4/M4 Pro chipsets. The redesign also increased RAM, with M4 models equipped with 16GB by default, and M4 Pro with 24GB. This model stands as Apple’s most powerful desktop Mac.

While there are no remarkable deals on the outgoing Mac mini, it’s advisable not to purchase it due to the substantial redesign. The M4 Mac mini is available for $499 on Amazon with an on-page coupon. Although the older model can be acquired for $469, it’s not a sensible buy since you receive half the RAM.

#5 – M3 iMac

Last month also saw a refresh of the iMac, moving from M3 to M4, adding more Thunderbolt ports, and incorporating the same Center Stage feature found in the MacBook Pro. Moreover, it now comes with 16GB of RAM as standard, retaining its starting price of $1299. A new array of colors has also been introduced.

Currently, there aren’t any standout deals on the departing M3 iMac, but you can find a $150 discount on the current model after using an on-page coupon, bringing the price down to $1149 on Amazon.

#6 and 7 – iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max

Following the trend established since the launch of the iPhone XS in 2018, Apple has discontinued the previous generation of flagship iPhones, meaning the iPhone 15 Pro models were retired upon the release of the iPhone 16 Pro series. However, there’s a particular interest in purchasing a refurbished iPhone 15 Pro as they are among the few models that support Apple Intelligence.

You can currently find a premium renewed 128GB iPhone 15 Pro for $719, and a premium renewed 256GB iPhone 15 Pro Max for $894. Amazon Renewed Premium devices come with a one-year return policy, ensuring you’re protected in case of any issues.

#8 – iPhone 13

The iPhone 13 debuted in 2021, offering several enhancements like improved battery life, a new camera system, and a smaller notch. Starting at $799, it has seen numerous price reductions over time, eventually dropping to $599 before it was discontinued.

While Amazon does not typically sell new iPhones in the United States, you can find refurbished units available for as low as $370 for an unlocked iPhone 13 in excellent condition.

#9, 10, and 11 – Lightning Magic Accessories

With this fall’s Mac refresh, Apple has transitioned the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard to USB-C, phasing out the Lightning versions.

There are a few deals available on Lightning versions of these accessories, though I would recommend against purchasing a Lightning accessory intended for long-term use. Nevertheless, the Magic Mouse with Lightning is currently $12 off, and the Magic Trackpad with Lightning is around $20 off.

#12 – Apple Watch Series 9

Following the thinner Apple Watch Series 10 launch, Apple has discontinued the older Apple Watch Series 9. This likely occurred because the Series 10 is priced identically, leaving little room in the pricing spectrum between the SE and Series 10 models.

Deals on the Apple Watch Series 9 are available, such as one for $299; however, I would suggest leaning towards the Series 10, which can currently be found for as low as $329.

#13, 14, and 15 – Remaining Lightning AirPods

With the introduction of AirPods 4 and USB-C AirPods Max, Apple has replaced all remaining Lightning port AirPods, including AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and AirPods Max (Lightning). AirPods 4 come in two variants, one with noise cancellation and one without.

I would personally avoid purchasing AirPods 2 or AirPods 3, since the AirPods 4 offer outstanding value. The basic version is priced at $119, while the noise-cancelling version retails for $168. Additionally, consider the USB-C AirPods Pro 2 if you’re after noise cancellation, which are currently priced at $169.

There are also attractive clearance deals on AirPods Max (Lightning), available for as low as $399.

While the latest tech may catch your eye, it’s always wise to explore deals on recently discontinued items, at least from my perspective.
