Apple TV+ has announced its upcoming film release, which is intriguingly peculiar and shrouded in mystery. Featuring Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller, The Gorge appears to blend elements of thriller, horror, and romance, set to premiere on Valentine’s Day. Check out the trailer below.

Reflecting Apple’s evolving cinematic approach, The Gorge will debut exclusively on Apple TV+ on February 14, 2025, without a theatrical release planned.
The film is helmed by Scott Derrickson, renowned for his works that include:

With a strong horror background and a high-profile Marvel film, The Gorge promises to be similarly well-funded, introducing ominous elements that are teased in the Apple TV+ synopsis:
Two highly-trained operatives (Teller and Taylor-Joy) are stationed in guard towers on opposing sides of a vast, classified gorge, tasked with safeguarding the world from an undisclosed, enigmatic evil lurking within. As they forge a bond from afar, they must remain alert against an unseen adversary. When a catastrophic threat to humanity is unveiled, they must collaborate to test their physical and mental fortitude to keep the gorge’s secret safe before time runs out.
The trailer reveals much while still maintaining an air of intrigue.
Given the description, it appears that most of the trailer’s footage might occur within the film’s initial thirty minutes, with the main storyline intentionally kept under wraps.
The Gorge marks Anya Taylor-Joy’s inaugural project with Apple TV+, though it certainly won’t be her last. Just announced last week, she will also head a forthcoming television series titled Lucky.

The Gorge seems to embody an intriguing genre fusion that could either transform into a remarkable hit or devolve into something forgettable and easily dismissed. Here’s hoping for a success story. Regardless, I’m delighted by Apple’s distinctive approach to Valentine’s Day content.
