Apple’s UK Investment Exceeds £18 Billion, Creating 550,000 Jobs

Apple’s investments in the UK have surpassed £18 billion ($23 billion) over the last five years, contributing to the creation of over 550,000 direct and indirect jobs.

According to Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, the company has been catering to UK customers for over 40 years and now operates 40 retail locations across the nation.

This job count includes developers who monetize their efforts through iOS applications.

During this period, the size of Apple’s engineering team in the country has doubled. This growth reinforces Apple’s enduring ties to the UK, where it currently underpins 550,000 jobs from direct employment, its supply chain, and the iOS app ecosystem.

“We’ve been serving customers in the U.K. for over 40 years, and we’re proud of our significant relationships within communities across this nation,” stated Tim Cook. “We’re excited to expand our Apple teams here while continuing to support visionary innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs who are pushing the limits of technology.”

There are some of the most talented and dynamic developers in the country, harnessing their creativity and skills to design apps cherished by users worldwide. Since the App Store’s launch in 2008, UK developers have generated nearly £9 billion from digital goods and services.

The firm emphasizes the essential role its UK engineers play in Apple Intelligence.

Apple’s engineering divisions in the UK—based in London, Cambridge, and other locations—handle vital tasks and research covering various products and services. This includes the development of key technologies within Apple Intelligence, such as Siri’s seamless integration into Apple offerings and Private Cloud Compute, which establishes new benchmarks for privacy in AI.

Growth in Apple TV+ production has also been significant.

[This sector] has experienced a threefold increase in the past two years, generating employment in the creative industry and offering a platform for emerging local talents to present their creations to a global audience.
