Upcoming features for WhatsApp calls
“WhatsApp calling is increasingly favored globally, with over 2 billion calls placed daily. With the holiday season approaching, we’re rolling out new calling capabilities across both desktop and mobile to make connecting with loved ones even simpler,” Meta outlined in their blog.
One significant update is that WhatsApp will enable users to select specific participants from a group chat for calling, allowing you to reach out to certain individuals without interrupting the others. “Perfect for orchestrating surprise parties or gifts,” the company highlights. In addition, Meta is introducing playful new camera effects for video calls, such as puppy ears, a karaoke mic, and an underwater filter to elevate the interaction.
More than just aesthetic changes, call quality is also a priority. Meta is actively enhancing the calling experience on desktop, facilitating easier call initiation through WhatsApp on computers. When it comes to video calls, the company commits to delivering higher resolution streaming for both individual and group conversations.
Recently, Meta announced that WhatsApp will soon cease functioning on older iPhone models, including the iPhone 5s, as the application will now necessitate iOS 15.1 or newer. The platform has also made voice message transcription available for all users.
