WhatsApp for iPhone to Introduce a Dedicated Call Dialer Soon

It’s been some time since WhatsApp rolled out audio and video calling features within the app. To streamline this experience, Meta is testing a new call dialer integrated into WhatsApp for iPhone, enabling users to call those not saved in their contacts.

WhatsApp Introduces a Call Dialer Feature

According to WABetaInfo and verified by DMN, the most recent beta of WhatsApp for iOS features a call dialer reminiscent of the iPhone’s standard dialer for conventional calls. Users can simply input a phone number, and if that number is associated with a WhatsApp account, they can initiate a call directly from the app.

The primary goal is to facilitate quicker calls to individuals and businesses without needing to first save their numbers in contacts. Users can access the dialer by tapping the “+” icon found in the Calls tab of WhatsApp.

This advancement brings WhatsApp closer to potentially replacing Apple’s Phone app. With the release of iOS 18.2, which just became available to users, there’s an option to select third-party apps as defaults for calls and texts. Although no apps currently support this adjustment, it wouldn’t be surprising if WhatsApp introduces this functionality soon.

Earlier this week, WhatsApp also shared updates aimed at enhancing call quality. Meta mentioned ongoing efforts to improve the clarity of calls, particularly for video communication, which will now feature higher resolutions. Additionally, users will soon have the ability to initiate calls with particular members from group chats.

The new call dialer is being gradually released to WhatsApp users and is currently accessible to individuals with the latest beta version installed through TestFlight. WhatsApp remains a free download on the App Store.
