Recent survey findings indicate that while Apple Intelligence is significant for iPhone consumers, most feel that the current features provide minimal to no value. It remains unclear whether the upcoming Genmoji and ChatGPT integration will alter this perception.
The situation is even more dire for Samsung device owners, with an even larger portion stating they find the AI functionalities offered to be largely unessential…
iPhone users value AI
A recent survey conducted by tech trade-in platform SellCell reveals that AI is a crucial consideration for those purchasing new smartphones.
iPhone users exhibit a notably higher interest in mobile AI compared to Samsung users, with nearly half (47.6%) indicating that AI features are a ‘very’ or ‘somewhat’ important factor when selecting a new phone, in contrast to only 23.7% of Samsung users sharing this sentiment.
However, current offerings fail to impress
Despite the desire for AI capabilities, the Apple Intelligence features currently available seem to fall short of iPhone users’ expectations.
General dissatisfaction with AI functionalities is evident, as the survey recorded that 73% of Apple Intelligence users and 87% of Galaxy AI users believe that these new features are either ‘not very valuable’ or ‘provide little to no value’ to their smartphone usage.
The survey also assessed the popularity of various Apple Intelligence features before the release of iOS 18.2:
- Writing Tools (72%)
- Notification summaries (54%)
- Priority Messages (44.5%)
- Clean Up in Photos (29.1%)
- Smart Reply in Mail and Messages (20.9%)
Could Genmoji and ChatGPT shift perceptions?
The survey was conducted prior to the iOS 18.2 launch, which introduced Genmoji and ChatGPT integration.
Genmoji combines elements of ‘emoji’ and ‘AI-generated.’ Essentially, in iOS 18.2, users can leverage Apple Intelligence to create custom emojis on the spot.
To create an emoji, open the emoji keyboard on your iPhone running iOS 18.2 and look for a new glowing smiley icon in the top-right corner. Tap the icon, describe the desired emoji, and voilà! […]
Apple showcased its ChatGPT integration as a complement to Siri’s capabilities, handling specific inquiries through Siri while utilizing ChatGPT for others. With iOS 18.2, users can initiate Siri requests with “Ask ChatGPT,” allowing the assistant to direct the question straight to ChatGPT.
