As the year draws to a close, Apple is gearing up for a significant push into Home products in 2025. Here are three new Home devices anticipated for launch in the upcoming year.
Exciting New ‘HomePad’ Device
One of the most thrilling additions to Apple’s Home range for 2025 is the currently unnamed ‘HomePad’ device.
In reports from Mark Gurman:
Apple is approaching the release of a novel product category: a wall-mounted display capable of controlling appliances, facilitating videoconferencing, and utilizing AI to navigate applications… This device features an approximately 6-inch screen resembling a square iPad, about the size of two iPhones side by side, with a thick bezel surrounding the display. It’s also equipped with a front-facing camera, a rechargeable internal battery, and integrated speakers.
Key features anticipated for the HomePad include:
- a strong focus on Apple Intelligence paired with an enhanced Siri
- widgets similar to StandBy, along with Home app controls, and more
- photo slideshows from the Photos app
- incorporated security camera and video/audio intercom with FaceTime capabilities
- compatibility with Apple apps including Safari, Music, and Notes
As I’ve mentioned in other contexts, this sounds like the type of home device I would love to own.
Gurman suggests that the HomePad is likely to launch in March, while Ming-Chi Kuo believes it may debut later in the year. Regardless, the emergence of this new Home device category from Apple is expected in 2025.
New Apple TV 4K
It has been a few years since the previous Apple TV 4K was introduced, and now Apple is preparing to release an updated version in 2025.
While specific details about the revamped Apple TV 4K are limited, we can expect at least the following:
- Support for Apple Intelligence
- An A18 or A17 Pro chip for AI capabilities
- A new in-house Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chipset
Additionally, it’s likely that Apple will enhance support for cutting-edge TV display technologies. However, apart from these upgrades, the new Apple TV 4K is anticipated to retain the same fundamental design and operating system as existing models.
HomePod mini 2
While the larger HomePod has moved into its second generation, the HomePod mini has remained the same first-generation device since its launch in 2020.
However, in 2025, we can expect the debut of the first-ever HomePod mini 2.
Barring a release timeline and the inclusion of Apple’s updated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip, details about the new HomePod mini are lacking.
There’s a possibility that Apple may enhance the device with full Apple Intelligence support. I am hopeful that this will be the case.
Alternatively, the company might choose to have the HomePod mini 2 closely integrate with your iPhone and other devices, such as the HomePad. It would continue to serve as an affordable smart speaker while leveraging the intelligence of nearby devices. We should anticipate more announcements regarding the HomePod mini 2 in the coming months.
Overview of Apple’s Home Initiatives
Apple’s upcoming focused approach towards the smart home sector marks a shift after years of maintaining Home products as a secondary interest. I remain optimistic that the company has a solid strategy for its Home product ecosystem—there’s immense potential here.
If Apple can establish a robust Home ecosystem, it could pave the way for even more innovative products in the future, including a potential AirPort revival.
