Apple realizes it must implement this crucial change to the iPhone 17 Pro before launching the iPhone 17 Air.

This year’s iPhone lineup from Apple is set to bring a wave of excitement. With five new models on the horizon, the incredibly sleek iPhone 17 Air might just be the standout device. It seems Apple is also planning to refresh the design of the iPhone 17 Pro models. Here’s what we know.

The iPhone 17 Air: A Fresh Appearance That Captivates

Do you recall when people used to ask, “Is that the new iPhone?” It feels like those days are behind us.

Previous generations of the iPhone showcased more distinct physical changes each year.

However, that trend hasn’t been apparent for quite some time.

If you’re not observant, it can be quite challenging to tell apart an iPhone 16 Pro from an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro.

Even looking back to the iPhone X in 2017, which brought the notch, the differences between the Dynamic Island and the notch can be subtle for many users.

This is one of the reasons why the iPhone 17 Air is generating so much interest.

The anticipated successor to the iPhone Plus is projected to feature a slim, modern design along with a single rear camera.

This means it will present a fresh appearance that others are likely to notice, potentially reviving the classic question, “Is that the new iPhone?”

However, this could pose a dilemma for Apple.

The flagship Pro models might appear outdated in comparison.

And that’s certainly not the impression Apple aims to leave with the 17 Air.

Apple Recognizes the Need for a Fresh Design in the iPhone 17 Pro

I’ve previously discussed how challenging the decision will be for average Pro buyers this year. Many opt for Pro models due to their status as the top-tier iPhones.

While this remains true, the innovative design of the 17 Air is likely to entice many Pro users, regardless of the Pro models being technically superior.

This is a concern for Apple, as the Pro models are set to be priced higher than the 17 Air.

This challenge is precisely why Apple is introducing ‘substantial alterations’ to the design of the iPhone 17 Pro.

Speculated updates include:

  • transition to an aluminum frame
  • an enlarged, ‘rectangular’ camera bump
  • an aluminum top section of the back paired with a glass bottom
  • a smaller Dynamic Island for the Pro Max variant
  • and potentially rounded edges

Regardless of whether these changes appeal to you, one fact is evident: they will contribute to a distinct visual identity.

Recap: Redesign of the iPhone 17 Pro

After years of subtle differences among Pro models, the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will finally showcase an updated look.

This new design aims to balance the attention between the 17 Air and the Pro models, preventing the Air from overshadowing its counterparts.

Apple intends for users to appreciate both the innovative iPhone and the powerful model without feeling like they have to choose one over the other. Hence, both the 17 Air and 17 Pro will feature their own distinctive looks and enticing features.

This promises to be an exciting year for iPhone enthusiasts.
