It all began with a planetarium. Now, Theater for visionOS has evolved into the premier Plex video player on the Apple Vision Pro, thanks to a host of new features in the recent 2.1 update.
Plex playback is still a fresh addition from the 2.0 upgrade. As I highlighted during the launch of Theater 2:
Theater 2 already offered YouTube streaming. Now it can also stream content from your personal Plex Media Server, making it a far better option than the still non-existent visionOS Plex app.
While the Plex iPad app on AVP does not pose stiff competition, the Theater team has significantly enhanced their Plex offering. Adam Lisagor of Sandwich fame shares:
The addition of 2FA support, which was part of the app’s roadmap, enables streaming from local Plex servers for many users, while remote server support allows sharing access with friends.
Theater has officially become my top choice among Apple Vision Pro apps.
Theater 2.1 is now available on the visionOS App Store. The app can be downloaded for free, with Plex support available through a $4 in-app purchase that unlocks all features. If you’re a Plex user, the unlocking fee is undoubtedly worth it at $40.
