One of my greatest hopes is that AirTag 2 will bring notable enhancements to Precision Finding. This feature is designed to accurately pinpoint the location of a lost AirTag using a blend of Bluetooth and the Ultra Wideband chip. However, in practical use, Precision Finding has its quirks and mainly operates under optimal conditions.
According to Bloomberg‘s reports, it seems my desire will be fulfilled. Presently, Precision Finding operates within a range of 10 to 30 meters. With AirTag 2, a next-generation Ultra Wideband chip will significantly increase that range, enabling Precision Finding to function from 30 to 90 meters away. Notably, we’ve already witnessed the enhanced Ultra Wideband chip in action with the iPhone 15.
This improvement will dramatically enhance usability. Currently, the easiest method to locate an item is to emit a sound from the AirTag speaker. While this can guide you towards the general area of the AirTag, the advancements in Precision Finding will lead you directly to its precise location.
