Have you ever wanted to rearrange or remove apps from CarPlay? The good news is that you can do this, although the method differs from how you would adjust your iPhone Home screen.
The solution lies within the Settings app on your iPhone. Just remember not to attempt this while driving. Interestingly, you don’t even need to be connected to CarPlay for these changes to take effect.
Adjusting Your CarPlay App Layout
If you’ve connected your iPhone to CarPlay before, you can modify the app layout even when you’re away from your vehicle. However, the customized layout is unique to each car, so you will need to repeat these steps for each vehicle to maintain the same arrangement.
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone and select General.
- Then tap CarPlay; it’s the eighth option in the list.
- Choose your vehicle from the list of connected cars, and tap Customize.
Now that you are in the customization section, you can organize the apps in your preferred order by dragging them up and down. The layout might feel a bit peculiar since arranging app names on a list is different from rearranging apps on an iPhone, possibly due to the varying app layouts across different CarPlay interfaces.
Keep in mind how many apps fit on one page of your CarPlay display. A common layout is a 2×4 grid (two rows and four columns). If this applies to your situation, you can use the following guide to arrange your apps:
- 1: Top left icon
- 2: Second icon from the top left
- 3: Second icon from the top right
- 4: Top right icon
- 5: Bottom left icon
- 6: Second icon from the bottom left
- 7: Second icon from the bottom right
- 8: Bottom right icon
Repeat this arrangement for every set of eight slots to organize your pages effectively.
Some CarPlay displays may feature a different layout, such as 2×5 or 4×4. If that’s the case for you, remember to adjust your sorting approach to fit the new page layout.
Additionally, the app arrangement screen allows you to hide or reveal CarPlay apps. By hiding a CarPlay app, you can remove it from the CarPlay interface without deleting it from your iPhone.
