Leaker Claims All iPhone 17 Pro Models Will Feature 48MP Sensors

A reliable leaker known for accurate predictions regarding iPhone camera enhancements has supported claims that the 12MP front camera in the current iPhones will be upgraded to 24MP in the iPhone 17 series. Furthermore, they back the assertion that all three rear cameras on the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature 48MP sensors.

Additionally, recent information suggests that this year’s enhancement to the 5x telephoto camera sensor will extend to both the iPhone 17 Pro as well as the Pro Max.

The iPhone 16 Pro models currently include a combination of 12MP and 48MP camera sensors:

• Main camera: 48MP
• Ultrawide: 48MP (upgraded from 12MP in the iPhone 15 Pro)
• Telephoto: 12MP
• Selfie camera: 12MP

It has been over a year since Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo first mentioned supply-chain insights indicating an upgrade for the front-facing selfie camera in the iPhone 17 models.

The front camera of the iPhone 17 is set to receive a significant upgrade to a 24MP/6P lens, in contrast to the 12MP/5P lens in the iPhone 15 & 16, which will considerably enhance image quality. Genius is the leading lens supplier for iPhone front cameras.

The mention of a 6P lens compared to a 5P lens pertains to the number of elements present in the lens. In general, a higher number of elements results in a lens with reduced distortion.

Kuo has also indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will see an upgrade for its telephoto camera, moving from 12MP to 48MP.

Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station has corroborated both reports, noting that both iPhone 17 Pro models will be equipped with the new telephoto sensor, not just the Pro Max.

The specifications include 48MP for the main camera, 48MP for the ultra-wide angle, and 48MP for the 5X periscope, along with an upgrade to a 24MP front camera.

This means that both Pro models will feature 48MP sensors across all three of their rear cameras.
