Based on insights from Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, it appears that Apple does not intend to refresh the Vision Pro in 2025. He suggests that although it is theoretically possible for Apple to reveal a new headset ahead of its launch next year, all indicators suggest that new Vision Pro hardware will debut in 2026 instead.
Conversely, Gurman notes that Apple’s primary focus is on developing a more affordable headset, and the company is ‘intensifying’ efforts to roll out that product.
Earlier reports from analysts like Ming Chi-Kuo had indicated that the Apple Vision Pro 2 was on track to begin production in the latter half of 2025. The device was anticipated to feature the M5 chip and support for Apple Intelligence, with minimal additional hardware updates expected. Kuo also mentioned delays for Apple’s budget headset until at least 2027.
In contrast, Gurman characterizes the affordable headset as an “urgent goal” for Apple. It won’t launch in 2025, but it hopefully isn’t far off:
The most pressing priority is to deliver a budget-friendly version of the headset, and Apple is accelerating the development of such a product. Stay tuned for additional information. Aside from that device, codenamed N107, Apple is actively considering other concepts. This includes a variant of the Ray-Ban smart glasses from Meta Platforms Inc. and an AirPods-style vision device equipped with cameras.
All these products are expected to be released after 2025, but this year is projected to be a pivotal step towards that envisioned future.
Gurman also indicates that Apple continues to explore other products incorporating wearable cameras, including an Apple-branded version of the Meta Ray-Ban glasses and AirPods featuring cameras. While no strict timeline has been established, it is clear that these launches will occur after this year.
