The highly anticipated next version of CarPlay isn’t available yet, even though Apple’s website currently indicates the first models will debut in 2024. Recently, a widget interface for CarPlay 2 surfaced, offering insights into Apple’s ongoing enhancements.

Today, Aaron Perris shared on X his findings regarding the CarPlay 2 widget interface, posting a total of four images.

The leaked visuals were found in a European database, the same location where we’ve seen CarPlay 2 components previously disclosed.

The showcased widgets include:

  • A clock widget displaying the time in different cities
  • A weather widget to provide forecasts
  • A calendar widget to showcase upcoming events
  • A navigation and Now Playing combined widget

DMN’s Perspective

This new CarPlay 2 interface strongly resembles the standard widgets UI currently found across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, which is beneficial as it offers a familiar experience to Apple users.

Nonetheless, this similarity raises questions as to why such custom widgets can’t be integrated into the existing version of CarPlay. With CarPlay 2 still unconfirmed, numerous users are beginning to wonder if Apple should concentrate its efforts on enhancing the current system instead.
