On Tuesday, OpenAI introduced a new functionality for ChatGPT that transforms it into a reminder application. This feature, named “Tasks,” allows users to instruct ChatGPT to remind them of their duties and set up recurring notifications for various scenarios.
ChatGPT enables users to set reminders using ‘Tasks’
OpenAI characterizes the Tasks feature as a significant advancement toward establishing ChatGPT as a more useful AI companion capable of managing tasks on your behalf.
With this functionality, ChatGPT can provide reminders whenever necessary, whether for one-time events or recurring tasks. By simply telling ChatGPT what you need and when, it will schedule the reminder. A specific section for task management will be available in the profile menu within ChatGPT, and the chatbot will also suggest tasks based on your previous conversations.
For instance, users can request ChatGPT to notify them about their passport’s expiration in six months. It can also accommodate more complicated requests, such as asking for a daily weather report each morning or a to-do list every Friday. ChatGPT will send notifications through its website or app, and it can even create tasks automatically based on the information you provide (if permissions allow).
The new Tasks feature is currently being rolled out in a “beta” phase for ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers. It will be accessible across all platforms with the new “4o with scheduled tasks” model. During the beta testing, users can set up to 10 active tasks at once. Push notifications will also function through the ChatGPT macOS application.
“At this stage, we will utilize this beta period to gauge how users engage with tasks and make necessary improvements before the feature is made available to all ChatGPT users,” said OpenAI to DMN.
In December, OpenAI made ChatGPT Search accessible to everyone free of charge. This feature effectively turns ChatGPT into a real-time search engine capable of retrieving information from the web. Additionally, the macOS app has received an update to enhance compatibility with Apple Notes and various third-party applications.
The ChatGPT app is available free on the iOS App Store, while the Mac version needs to be downloaded from OpenAI’s official website.
