Apple has recently contributed to the Los Angeles wildfire recovery and is now encouraging customers to join their efforts.
Residents in the US can donate through the American Red Cross’s Southern California Wildfires Relief fund via the App Store or Apple Music apps.
Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, shared this message on Twitter today.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragic events in LA. Besides Apple’s own donation, we’ve made it simple for you to help as well. If you’re located in the US, just open the App Store or Apple Music to donate and contribute to recovery efforts.
Please note that the donation feature is available only for US Apple ID holders.
Last week, Cook referred to the fires as “heartbreaking” when announcing Apple’s support.
The destruction caused by the wildfires in Los Angeles is truly devastating. I want to express my gratitude to the brave firefighters, first responders, and everyone involved for their heroic actions. Apple is committed to supporting victims and aiding recovery efforts.
According to BBC News, 25 fatalities have been reported due to the prolonged wildfires, raising concerns that strong winds could worsen the situation.
Winds contributing to the wildfires in Los Angeles are predicted to intensify on Wednesday, with the death toll reaching 25 in this extensive outbreak.
Forecasters have indicated an area of extreme fire risk, particularly in regions northwest of downtown.
Wind speeds could reach 70mph (113km/h) in some mountainous areas, nearing hurricane-force if sustained.
This expected increase in wind speed threatens to exacerbate the remaining four fires, which firefighters have been working to contain during calmer weather.
Apple’s apps allow users to donate sums ranging from $5 to $200, with all proceeds going directly to the Red Cross.
