Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook traveled to the UK right before Christmas to meet with King Charles III. During his visit, Cook participated in a podcast interview that has just been released—here’s what he discussed regarding his daily and weekly habits, unconventional approach to retirement, his upbringing, and more.
CEO Cook was featured on the Table Manners podcast hosted by Jessie & Lennie Ware for this recent interview. You can listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts.
The almost hour-long discussion explored a variety of topics, including Tim Cook’s favorite foods, preferred wine, morning rituals, unconventional retirement plans, as well as insights from his childhood in Alabama.
Tim Cook’s Views on Retirement
When asked if he planned to retire, Cook responded:
Absolutely, but not in the traditional sense. I can’t envision myself at home doing nothing, devoid of intellectual challenges and not pondering how to improve tomorrow. I’ll always be inclined to work and be engaged. I was working as early as 11 or 12… I believe in the value of being challenged and stepping out of my comfort zone. That’ll always be my inclination.
Morning Rituals and Email Management
When the hosts inquired if he starts his mornings at 5 a.m. as rumored, Cook confirmed:
Yes, I often begin answering emails a bit earlier. It’s my most controllable time of the day. As the day unfolds, it becomes less predictable… I relish this part of the day where I can block out distractions and concentrate on a few important tasks while enjoying some quiet time.
Typically, my mornings consist of grabbing coffee and cereal…When I wake up, I focus on responding to emails—primarily from employees and customers.
On the topic of emails, Cook revealed the volume he receives daily:
Generally, it’s around 500 to 600. On days where extraordinary events occur, the number often surpasses that drastically.
Tim Cook’s Fast Food Experience and Culinary Preferences
I began flipping burgers around 14 or 15. I initially started with delivering newspapers… then moved up to flipping burgers at a joint called Tasty Freeze, earning $1.10 an hour, which was below the minimum wage that year.
Interestingly, despite his last name being Cook, he confessed that he doesn’t usually cook:
I don’t cook, really. Caffè Macs has such fantastic food. I enjoy lunch there and often take dinner home from Caffè Macs each week. My usual choice is fish.
Additional food-related insights include:
- Cook’s childhood favorite meal was fried chicken.
- He has a fondness for chocolate, especially dark chocolate.
- Kistler chardonnay stands as Cook’s preferred wine.
- One of his top restaurants in Palo Alto is Ethel’s Fancy.
- He noted that Apple produces jam from the fruit trees planted at Apple Park.
Apple’s CEO and Genmoji
In conclusion, Cook discussed Apple Intelligence and elucidated Genmoji during his interview.
When asked if he had his own custom Genmoji, Cook provided a diplomatic response related to London:
I was working on one just yesterday. I adore Christmas, and London truly is the perfect city for it. I was envisioning what Big Ben would look like with a Christmas tree in front of it.
The entire interview is a worthwhile listen to gain deeper insight into Cook’s life.
