This week, Apple TV+ is marking two significant events: the highly anticipated return of Severance alongside the season 2 finale of Silo. However, there’s some unfortunate news as well: the comedy series Dick Turpin has been unexpectedly canceled.
Dick Turpin canceled at Apple TV+ after star withdraws
The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is a comedy that premiered on Apple TV+ in early 2024.
The inaugural season received generally positive reviews from critics, but audience reception was somewhat lukewarm, leading Apple to renew it for a second season.
However, The Sun recently reported that the second season had been abruptly canceled, despite being well into production.
A new report sheds light on the situation.
Rod McPhee of The Sun states:
Noel Fielding’s multi-million pound comedy The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin has been scrapped mid-production following his failure to report to work. The star known for The Great British Bake Off and Never Mind the Buzzcocks played the role of the infamous highwayman in the show, which debuted on Apple TV+ last spring.
While the term ‘failed to come to work’ certainly piques interest, the situation is more complex upon further inspection.
The report elaborates: “This week, creatives, cast, and crew received the heartbreaking news, with explanations pointing to ‘the illness of a key cast member.’”
Fielding’s reported health issues appear to have forced him to withdraw from the series. Without its leading star, Apple TV+ found itself with no option but to cancel the production.
This raises several unanswered questions: Why wasn’t Dick Turpin’s filming rescheduled for a later time? What necessitated the cancellation of the series?
These answers may remain elusive. Unfortunately, fans of the inaugural season are unlikely to see the show return.
