Gurman: New Look for Apple Mail App Arriving on macOS in April

As reported by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is set to launch its revamped Mail app for Mac soon, anticipated to arrive with macOS 15.4. The new Mail app was initially unveiled for the iPhone in December alongside iOS 18.2, but hasn’t yet transitioned to other platforms.

Interestingly, we’ve already had a glimpse of the Mail app’s new interface for macOS. During the introduction of the new M4 Macs in October, Apple offered a sneak peek at the Mail app during one of its showcases. Though this wasn’t a major leak since the design had been previously shown during WWDC on the iPhone, it was notable given the absence of announcements regarding the Mac version of the Mail app at that time.

In December, with the rollout of iOS 18.3 and the macOS 15.3 beta, Apple introduced the Genmoji feature for macOS. However, the new Mail app was not part of this update, leaving many users curious about its launch timeline.

Nonetheless, Gurman notes that this situation will soon change with the upcoming release of macOS 15.4, which is expected to enter beta in the next few weeks and launch in April:

Additionally, there’s another subtle feature debuting in April: the Mac will receive the enhanced Mail app that utilizes AI for message prioritization and organization into various inbox categories. Currently, this feature is available to iPad and iPhone users, which is fantastic, but Mac users have yet to experience it. With macOS 15.4, this will change. For those unfamiliar, it categorizes emails into primary, transactions, promotions, updates, and all mail.

Gurman mentions that while the new Mail app is claimed to be accessible for iPad users, this is not currently true for either iPadOS 18.2 or 18.3. We hope to see the new Mail app become available to iPad users with the upcoming iPadOS 18.4 release. Time will tell.
