iOS 18.3 is set to launch soon, as the Release Candidate beta was just introduced today. According to the update’s release notes, it will enhance the iPhone 16’s Camera Control button and introduce new visual intelligence features.
Visual Intelligence Introduces Two New Features in iOS 18.3
With iOS 18.2, Apple integrated visual intelligence into the Camera Control of the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro.
This function allows users to long-press the Camera Control button to access a specialized AI-driven camera mode that interacts with the surrounding environment.
iOS 18.3 will introduce two new capabilities for visual intelligence:
- Your iPhone can now add events directly to your calendar when it identifies dates on posters or flyers.
- The ability to recognize plants and animals has also been added.
While Apple has showcased both features previously, this is the first time they will be available in Camera Control with iOS 18.3.
Expanding Integrations with Apple Apps Highlight Camera Control’s Benefits
The visual intelligence feature relies significantly on ChatGPT and Google for its extensive information, but I’ve found its most effective applications to be through integrations with Apple applications.
For instance, you can already point your iPhone at a restaurant or business to access its location on Maps.
The new capability to add events seamlessly to the Calendar app is another excellent example. I hope to see more such integrations in the future to enhance the value of visual intelligence.
Beyond these Camera Control enhancements, iOS 18.3 will also implement updates to Apple Intelligence notification summaries and some bug fixes, including addressing an annoying Calculator issue.
