Subreddits with Millions of Users Prohibit X Links Following Musk’s Inaugural Salute

Over two dozen subreddits, including several with millions of members, have decided to prohibit X links. Numerous other Reddit communities are in discussions about potentially adopting a similar policy.

The owner of X, Elon Musk, made a gesture at his inauguration event that some critics have termed a “Roman salute,” although it is more commonly associated with a much more recent historical context than 476 AD.

This moment created a challenge for reporters trying to articulate it, as aptly demonstrated by the satirical publication Men Carrying Things.

According to Engadget, a number of subreddits have reacted by banning links to Musk’s social media platform, with many more deliberating the decision.

In the past 24 hours, a multitude of subreddits have chosen to restrict links to X within their communities, indicating a growing movement on Reddit. This includes larger subreddits, such as one with nearly 5 million members, which are also considering a similar action.

The initiative seems to have originated from r/newjersey.

“F*ck this guy. X links are now banned from r/newjersey,” they asserted in a post that has received over 65,000 upvotes. The post featured an image of Elon Musk performing the gesture.

One of the subreddits implementing this ban is r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus. Other significant subreddits, including several with a collective following exceeding nine million users, have also joined in.
