Apple’s developer portal has announced a new API designed to enhance the management of In-App Purchases within applications. This new feature is called the Advanced Commerce API, and here’s what we currently know.
Advanced Commerce API offers increased flexibility for App Store developers
Here’s what they officially stated:
The App Store processes billions of transactions each year to assist developers in expanding their businesses and delivering an outstanding customer experience. To further support the evolving business models of developers — including large content catalogs, creator ecosystems, and subscriptions enhanced with optional add-ons — we’re excited to introduce the Advanced Commerce API.
Developers can apply to access the Advanced Commerce API, allowing them to manage In-App Purchases more flexibly within their applications while adhering to eligible App Store business models. These purchases utilize the reliable App Store commerce system, which includes comprehensive payment processing, tax assistance, customer support, and more, enabling developers to concentrate on creating exceptional app experiences.
Along with this announcement, Apple has provided a link for developers to understand the eligibility criteria and the application steps involved.
As of the time of this writing, that link is currently redirecting to Apple’s typical In-App Purchase page for developers. At first, the link was broken completely.
We hope Apple will soon provide more comprehensive details on the dedicated page. For now, it appears that Apple is broadening the avenues through which developers can administer In-App Purchases in their applications.
Regardless of the specifics, these adjustments promise more options and greater flexibility, which are undoubtedly positive changes.
