Launched three months ago with iOS 18.1, Apple Intelligence continues to receive updates, and the upcoming iOS 18.4 will introduce significant enhancements to these capabilities. Here are seven anticipated features and updates coming soon.
Siri’s Onscreen Awareness
A standout feature of the Vision Pro is its ability to know exactly what you’re focused on. With iOS 18.4, Siri will gain a similar ability across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.
This onscreen awareness means you can make requests to Siri that relate to whatever is in your immediate view. For instance, if your sister texts you her new address, you can say, “Add this address to her contact,” and Siri will complete the task without needing any additional clarification.
Siri’s Enhanced App Action Catalog
Thanks to a new system called App Intents, Siri will be able to execute hundreds of additional app actions without needing to open the apps themselves.
Moreover, Siri will be capable of performing these actions across various applications. For example, you could instruct Siri to locate a certain photo, apply edits, and save it to a specific folder in the Files app—all using just your voice.
Enhanced Personal Context Awareness
Siri will gain a deeper understanding of your individual context, mirroring the knowledge that a personal assistant usually possesses.
This means you’ll be able to mention a recipe your friend sent you, regardless of whether it was via email, text, or notes, and Siri will retrieve it for you. Additionally, Siri will be equipped to locate and share details such as your passport number and calendar history.
Improved Priority Notifications
Similar to the existing ‘Priority’ feature in the redesigned Mail app, the AI will soon prioritize the most significant notifications at the top of your alert queue.
Utilizing Apple’s advanced language understanding, priority notifications will be able to recognize what constitutes an urgent alert, allowing users to manage fewer notifications, ensuring they won’t overlook critical updates.
Sketch Style Returns in Image Playground
Apple initially showcased the Image Playground app with three unique styling options: Animation, Illustration, and Sketch.
Currently, the Sketch style is absent as of iOS 18.3. However, it is expected to return in iOS 18.4, offering users a new styling option for their original AI image creations.
Apple Intelligence Expansion in the EU
Apple has announced that it will officially extend Apple Intelligence support to the EU with the launch of iOS 18.4 in April.
As of now, AI features are limited to Macs within the EU, but soon both iPhone and iPad users will gain access to the full suite of Apple Intelligence features.
Introduction of New AI Languages
Lastly, Apple is planning to add support for new languages in the upcoming iOS 18.4 update.
While the company hasn’t specified the exact languages that will be prioritized, it has confirmed that languages including Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and others will be supported later this year.
