WhatsApp Introduces Event Scheduling Feature for Private Chats

WhatsApp currently provides a feature that assists users in planning events through group chats. Soon, this functionality will extend to private chats, offering users enhanced flexibility for creating and managing their schedules.

WhatsApp to broaden scheduling event features

According to WABetaInfo, the latest beta iteration of WhatsApp has introduced the ability to generate events from private chats, “expanding beyond its previous application in group conversations.” The feature, already present in group chats, allows users to “organize meetings, set alerts, and coordinate appointments directly within chats.” Users can also designate locations or add links to audio and video calls.

The objective, naturally, is to encourage users to favor WhatsApp over dedicated calendar applications for managing meetings and other engagements. After all, coordinating these arrangements is more straightforward while already conversing about an event.

Interestingly, WhatsApp’s initiative follows speculation about Apple’s plans to launch a new application specifically for sending invitations to in-person gatherings. Initially reported by DMN and validated by Bloomberg, this application is poised to offer iPhone and iPad users a new way to invite attendees to gatherings and events. An announcement regarding this new app is anticipated in the coming days.

Returning to WhatsApp, Meta is also investigating the possibility of allowing users to access View Once media on multiple linked devices, which would be beneficial for those who utilize WhatsApp across several devices. At present, View Once media (which vanishes after being viewed) can only be accessed on the primary device where WhatsApp is registered.

There hasn’t been any official word on when these innovative features will be released to the public. WhatsApp is available to download for free on the App Store; however, the beta version can only be accessed by select users through TestFlight.
