Apple Vision Pro: A Year in Review – Highlights, Challenges, and What’s Next

On the topic of Apple Vision Pro, several insightful reflections on the product’s initial year have emerged.

The first piece that piqued my interest today was a thoughtful and refreshing evaluation by Adam Savage and his team:

Just a moment ago, Jason Snell at Six Colors also shared his meticulously crafted analysis:

I have numerous criticisms regarding Apple’s approach to the Vision Pro rollout. There has been excessive hype surrounding this product, it has not generated enough immersive video content despite that being its standout feature, and overall, it has struggled to draw in enthusiastic developers ready to create the next groundbreaking innovation.

Nonetheless, I must commend Apple for its relentless efforts in enhancing the product itself.

For a comprehensive perspective on the performance of Apple Vision Pro in its first year, be sure to read his complete article—there’s much more insight to uncover.

My own perspective over the weekend was fairly straightforward.

A year later, Apple Vision Pro has seen sufficient improvement through software updates that it now outperforms its initial state.

The ability to breathe life into ordinary photos by adding depth is nothing short of remarkable. The capability to expand your Mac’s display to the equivalent of two 5K monitors side by side is impressive. Above all, Apple Vision Pro has transformed into the ultimate personal and portable immersive movie theater available.

However, hitting the one-year milestone means there are now fewer excuses for Apple Vision Pro’s limitations. The statement, “It’s just the first year” can no longer be used to justify its shortcomings.

Additionally, I have a strong desire for a virtual coffee shop environment on Apple Vision Pro.

Apple has already demonstrated its ability to enhance existing products through feature updates and new additions. Might the upcoming year also bring an upgrade from the currently two-generation-old M2 to the anticipated M5?
