The Messages app from Apple is packed with fantastic features, especially with the newest updates from iOS 18 and Genmoji. However, a significant drawback is the lack of effective tools for managing unanswered messages. The new RPLY app for Mac aims to address this issue using AI technology.
RPLY Utilizes AI to Tackle Your iMessage Forgetfulness
RPLY is an innovative macOS application designed to perform two primary functions:
- It scans all your iMessages and gathers the ones that haven’t been answered into a specific hub.
- It then generates AI-crafted responses for those messages, allowing you to reply with just one click.
In essence, it’s a simple yet effective tool that addresses a pressing need for many Messages users.
Currently, Apple doesn’t provide a straightforward way to keep track of whom you’ve forgotten to text back.
A common workaround is to mark threads as unread.
While this may work for some users, it poses a few challenges: you might end up with read messages showing the same blue dot as genuinely unread ones, causing confusion.
Apple may eventually improve this situation, but in the meantime, if you frequently overlook messaging others and desire an AI buddy, RPLY might be your solution.
The app is the brainchild of Molly Cantillon, who explained to TechCrunch her vision: “making texting feel less burdensome while still fostering authentic connections.”

Aiming at those who often neglect to reply and leave friends hanging for days, RPLY leverages AI to detect missed messages and suggests replies to prevent users from unintentionally ghosting others. The AI assistant can automatically generate responses for any message in a user’s inbox that has gone unanswered for more than 24 hours.
If you’re wary about RPLY scanning through your iMessages, you can activate a local-processing option. Be sure to check the privacy policy as well.
The main downside? After a free trial, RPLY comes with a steep subscription fee of $30 per month.
