Apple is set to unveil its next iPhone SE soon, but the flagship iPhone 17 series is expected to launch later this year. Recent rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a significant advantage in its display: a possibly much smaller Dynamic Island.
Exclusive Smaller Dynamic Island on the 17 Pro Max
Analyst Jeff Pu has been predicting for some time that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will come equipped with a notably smaller Dynamic Island.
However, Ming-Chi Kuo recently commented that he anticipates all iPhone 17 models will share the same size Dynamic Island.
In contrast, another leaker, Digital Chat Station on Weibo, has supported Pu’s assertion that the Dynamic Island on the 17 Pro Max is indeed shrinking.
This reduction would be made possible through new “metalens” technology, which consolidates certain components of the Face ID sensor, allowing Apple to minimize the display cutout on the Pro Max model.
It’s common for Apple’s Pro Max variant to possess one or two features that set it apart from the standard Pro model. Beyond the usual advantages of having a larger battery, the Pro Max often includes exclusive camera capabilities.
This time, while the modification does involve camera components, the improvement will likely be more about aesthetics than functionality. A smaller Dynamic Island will contribute to a reduced black cutout on the display, bringing Apple closer to achieving a fully all-screen design.
Interestingly, Digital Chat Station mentions that this new metalens technology will also be introduced in future iPad Pro and folding iPad models. While current iPads lack a Dynamic Island or notch, this advancement could lead to thinner bezels around the iPad displays.
